Runaways & Insurrection on a Slave Ship
This short film was commissioned for the Remembering Slavery touring exhibition and was created by Media 19, a leading north east independent production company. The film is a fictional account of the life of an enslaved African. It follows him from capture in Africa, through the middle passage voyage, to plantation life in the Caribbean. It is influenced by original accounts by former enslaved Africans, such as the autobiography of Olaudah Equiano. The film lasts for about seven and a half minutes and contains words and images that some may find disturbing.
