In Our Practice: Tips from Our BCS Staff

Here are some ways BCS Teachers incorporate Academic Integrity in their classrooms:

  • Creating original assignments and supporting students through the writing process minimizes the likelihood of plagiarism. 
  • Reviewing and emphasizing habits of scholarship.
  • Teaching how to identify a good source and how to cite sources; using Jot sheets.
  • Collecting electronics before an exam and returning them at the end of the period once all students have completed the exam.
  • Having students paraphrase math definitions
  • Using the add-on tool in Google Docs for Easy Bib.
  • Searching using quotation marks in Google and Google Docs.
  • Posting wall posters of Citation guides.
  • Reminding students about the importance of citing before PBATs.
  • Including proper citations on all articles given to the class. 
  • When referencing information in class, point out the source of the information- and ask students to do the same during class discussions and in written assignments.
  • Explaining that "I am Responsible", one of BCS's Core Values, includes respect for ideas and intellectual property.
